IOT AND BIG DATA FOR THE MADE IN ITALY AGRIFOOD SUCCESS

iot agroalimentare

Agricolture 4.0 is  worth about 100 million euros in Italy.

The Smart AgriFood Observatory's search results of Milan Politecnico Management School and the RISE Lab of the University of Brescia show the enormous potential of agribusiness  (Made in Italy) related to IoT (Internet of things),  technological food innovations, Big Data and artificial intelligence.

To innovate “Made in Italy”’s food is a strategic challenge because it means bringing innovation to the heart of the Italian economy. Made in Italy in the agro-industrial sector is a strong market that made Italy famous all around the world. “The food’s challenge is a challenge that-as Philip Renga, Director of the Observatory Smart Agrifood supports– we have to win on some very specific topics: quality, traceability, sustainability, food security, identity respect and development. All in the name of efficiency.”

The value of Made in Italy agrifood

Digital Innovation in the agro-industrial sector would ensure competitiveness in one of the key areas for the Italian economy which contributes to over 11% of GDP and 9% on export. Thanks to data and analytics, Internet of Things and processing and user interface software systems, it can reduced the cost of manufacturing of high quality products, grow revenues through greater recognition or guarantee and  using anti-counterfeiting systems or guaranteed food traceability chains.

Currently in Italy less than 1% of agricultural cultivated land takes advantage of new technologies this is why lack of skills and of knowledge about benefits. Furthermore even if Companies using technological innovations, only 11% enables the Internet of Things (IoT).

The overall Smart Agrifood  market  exceeds 4bilion euros in the global market while Italy is  worth about 100 million euros.

IOT of field and Big Data to innovate Italian food

Some possible applications include IoT (Internet of Things) sensors, drones for data collection and logistics subsidiary, smart labels that accompany product packaging to tell its story from raw materials and the role of involved actors. The value lies in the ability to turn these data into knowledge for all actors and for consumers to benefit with quality products.

Internet of Farming

Data and accuracy. We talk about Internet of Farming that takes advantage of all possible sources of data, putting in value the IoT (Internet of things) thanks to Big Data to save time and resources, improve product quality and bring improvements to the environment and to people's work.

AUGMENTED REALITY, THE NEW BUSINESS STRATEGY OF 2018

realtà aumentata

Virtual reality and augmented reality in recent years took over and continue to grow incessantly. Virtual reality places the user in a fictitious and parallel world while augmented reality overlays virtual to reality in real time in an overwhelming way.

Last developments introduces a new technology called Mixed Reality that will change our purchasing behaviors and also our way to interact with objects, both in everyday life like at work, getting together  physical and digital information and linking all five senses.

Why companies must evolve in Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is having his way in all sectors, from marketing to factory, facilitating in a smart way employees and specialists work.

AR and VR technologies will evolve into computerized platforms used by smartphones and tablets, essential tools to be connected in global network nowadays. It’s impossible to not include in our business strategy Augmented Reality devices and applications to guarantee a more immersive use on spaces and products/services.

Automotive Industry is already augmented reality

2018 will be augmented reality’s year, we have no doubts. Investments and competitions between companies producing device will always be growing. One area that is focusing a lot on this new technology is the automotive industry. To take advantage of augmented reality it needs Smart glasses, simply smart viewers that store information about objects, internal or external spaces, by using sensors, accessible by users through applications, voice, video, or images in an autonomous way.

BMW, Ford, Lamborghini have taken advantage of this wave of innovation involving workers and customers from planning phase to purchase phase. They offer services that can display the car in its entirety by wearing a simple Viewer. The mechanic will display video tutorials, images or pop ups about maintenance staying focused on his work and the customer will access the information about all cars’ different components or driving it as in a Formula 1 circuit, directly in the show room.

The 2016-18 PSD2, Payments Servers Directive, introduces some important news for the complete harmonization of the EU payments market focused on give a major consumer protection. It encourage the development of new payment solutions, the regulation of new player market, uniform fees  for card payments following MIF principles, the increase of  the competition level, and the overcome of the differences between the Member States disciplines and the general increase of efficiency through infrastructure standardization.

The point is that everyone must take part in the changes introduced by Fintech and Digital Payments.

The evolution of Informamuse “to Inform with Amuse” heads towards innovative and virtuous goals by starting from these moments of confrontation and dialogue between academia. In addition, the necessity to establish synergic relationships and infrastructure links is vital to propose new services and activities.
